When you hear Lekki, Lagos, what you immediately picture is an urban area complete with good roads and infrastructures. But somewhere in Lekki is a place called Ikota, a slum in the City of Lagos.
Life in Ikota is better imagined than lived. Residents wade through knee-deep dirty water to leave their homes. Some houses have been submerged in water, forcing occupants out of their homes. Those who stayed back have no choice but to walk through dirty, snake-infested water on a daily basis. As a result, residents have been left battling various diseases.
As one resident put it, "We've been going to hospital every month to treat our legs."
